Acoustic Flexible Insulation Covers
Powertherm designed, manufactured, and installed bespoke acoustic insulation covers to reduce noise pollution and improve efficiency for industrial equipment. Combining thermal insulation with acoustic performance, this project demonstrates our expertise in providing tailored solutions for complex industrial applications.
Project Overview
Powertherm was appointed by our client to design, manufacture, and install bespoke removable insulation covers for a pump and gearbox assembly. The objective was to provide an effective acoustic solution to reduce operational noise to safe levels while maintaining accessibility for ongoing inspections and maintenance.
Our Solution
PTFLEX Acoustic; two custom multi-piece covers were designed and manufactured in-house, before being installed on-site:
- A multi-piece cover for the pump
- A form-fitted multi-piece cover for the gearbox
Each cover was constructed using a combination of high-performance materials to deliver both acoustic and thermal benefits:
- Grey silicone glass cloth outer layer for flexibility and durability
- Mineral wool insulation for effective thermal control
- 10kg/m² acoustic barrier to significantly reduce acoustic levels
- Fastenings: straps with D-rings and Velcro seems
The covers were tailored to precise dimensions, ensuring a perfect fit. Straps with D-rings and Velcro were incorporated to connect the different pieces of the cover together and secure them in place. This also enables easy removal and reinstall for operations and maintenance activities on-site. Insulation quilting pins were used to provide an anchor point that prevents the insulation from potential sagging.
Results
- Through our PTFLEX Acoustic product, a noticeable acoustic reduction was achieved across both the pump and gearbox units down to safe levels
- Improved thermal efficiency, through heat conservation
- Removable design allowing for easy access for operations critical requirements and routine inspections and maintenance
- Durable, high-quality finish suitable for demanding industrial environments, meaning the product will last its expected life-cycle
