Industrial Coatings

Experienced, Knowledgeable, Expert Applicators

Through our vast experience within industrial projects, we know that industrial coatings and specialist linings greatly improve lifecycles, reduce future requirements for maintenance, improve asset integrity, and as a result, reduce operational and asset lifetime costs.

Powertherm offers a comprehensive range of services within the Industrial Coatings industry including erosion, abrasion, impact & corrosion resistant coating systems.  From surface preparation to decoration and protective coatings to specialist linings, we have the experience, expertise, and skill to apply any coating, to any surface, in any situation.

A Reputation Built on Safety and Quality

We pride ourselves on safety and quality of service at Powertherm.  We have in-house NACE certified painting / coatings inspectors, and our operatives are qualified under the Industrial Coatings Applicator Scheme (ICATS) and approved by the Institute of Corrosion (ICorr) where applicable.

This means we have a proven track record in delivering high-quality services on projects of all sizes, across a wide variety of industries.  All projects are subject to our dynamic safety policy along with British Standard Quality Assured Controls.  Our aim is to consistently deliver high quality, innovative solutions, and sustainable approaches to surpass our client’s requirements and protect their assets.

Support Services

Having an in-house access division allows us to provide not only access to larger assets but encapsulation to prevent potential contamination of the surrounding environment.  We are competent in performing on-site services understanding the procedures applied on-site, the environment and operational challenges.  Our dedicated coatings facility also has the capabilities to undergo all manner of off-site projects such as blast cleaning, flame metal spraying and industrial painting.

Powertherm also offers additional support services including:

  • Encapsulation & environmental protection
  • On-site blast cleaning facilities
  • In-house coatings facilities
  • Access Solutions: Rope Access, Mobile Elevating Working Platforms (MEWPs), Electric Cradle operators
  • Technical support: coatings surveys, inspections and analysis, coatings specification development, assessment of hazardous or toxic substances
  • Traffic management

What are the different types of industrial coatings?

Industrial coatings are protective or functional surface treatments applied to assets, structures, and equipment in order to extend service life, prevent degradation, ensure safety, or meet regulatory requirements.

The main types used across industrial sectors are as follows:

  • Protective and anti-corrosion coatings: These include epoxy, polyurethane, zinc-rich, and thermally sprayed coatings designed to protect metal substrates from corrosion caused by moisture, chemicals, or atmospheric exposure.
  • Passive fire protection (PFP) coatings: Intumescent coatings and cementitious systems are applied to structural steel and process assets to maintain structural integrity in the event of fire.
  • Specialist linings: Tank and vessel linings, like Phenolic or Novolac Epoxy, or Vinyl Ester, are applied to internal surfaces to resist high temperatures and chemical attack, abrasion, and erosion.
  • Floor coatings: Epoxy and polyurethane floor coatings provide chemical resistance, durability, non-slip properties, and hygiene compliance in industrial facilities.
  • Concrete protection coatings: Applied to structural and civil concrete to protect against acid attack, carbonation, and physical damage.

Correct surface preparation is essential for all industrial coatings, as without the right blast profile and substrate cleanliness, no coating system will perform to specification.

Coatings Built for the Environments That Demand the Most

The performance of a protective coating system is inseparable from the environment it’s asked to
work in.

A coating applied in a controlled manufacturing environment faces very different stresses from one exposed to chemical splash, elevated temperatures, or the relentless combination of moisture, salt, and mechanical wear found in the most demanding industrial settings.

Powertherm’s industrial coatings teams have experience across a wide range of sectors and
operating environments, including:

  • Oil, gas, and petrochemical facilities — where assets are subject to aggressive chemical exposure, process temperatures, and the need for passive fire protection systems that meet exacting performance standards
  • Power generation assets — including structural steelwork, vessels, and plant where longterm corrosion protection and surface temperature management are critical to asset integrity
  • Bulk storage terminals — where tank exteriors, internal linings, and associated steelwork require durable, correctly specified coating systems that can withstand both the stored product and the surrounding environment
  • Water and wastewater infrastructure — including structures where internal lining systems must resist chemical attack, abrasion, and biological exposure over extended service lives
  • Marine and port infrastructure — where harsh salt-laden, atmospheric and immersion exposure accelerates corrosion, requiring industrial protective coating specialists who understand surface preparation, coating specification and controlled application in demanding coastal and offshore conditions
  • Manufacturing and industrial plant — covering floor coatings, concrete protection, and general protective systems across a broad range of facility types and exposure conditions

Across all of these environments, the approach is the same: correct surface preparation first, the right coating system for the specific exposure conditions, and quality-controlled application by ICATS-qualified operatives supported by in-house NACE-certified inspection throughout.
