Pressure Vessel

Project Outcome

High-quality, on-time, on-budget, and safe execution of our multi-service offering on a landmark pressure vessel for a specialist client.

Project Rationale

Requirements for a replacement pressure vessel for operations at a refinery in the North of England.

Project Details

  • Contract Type: Installation
  • Industry: Vessel Fabrication
  • Services: Access, Surface Preparation, Coatings, Insulation
  • Workforce: 11 (Scaffolding, Painting & Insulation Operatives)
  • Timescale: 6 weeks

Scope of Services

Access:  Our access division began the project by constructing an independent scaffold for works to be carried out.  For the surface preparation and specialist coatings phase of the project, our scaffolding operatives erected a temporary roof.  They also added sheeting to the structure to provide encapsulation to reduce egress of materials and prevent any potential contamination.

Surface Preparation & Specialist Coatings:  Our painting operatives began high-pressure blast cleaning the vessel to clear the surface of any contamination.  They then applied Thermally Sprayed Aluminium (TSA) to the vessel to help combat Corrosion Under Insulation (CUI).

Insulation:  The final phase of the project saw our thermal insulation engineers install a bespoke 4” (100mm) foam glass insulation system to the dome ends and main body, and finish off the vessel with a 304 stainless steel cladding.

Site Details

  • Location: North of England
  • Type: Petrochemical
  • End User: A refinery in the North of England.

The replacement pressure vessel was manufactured and fully tested at the off-site facility.  The project took 26 weeks to complete with our project scope taking 6 weeks.  The vessel is an impressive 15m x 5m x 5m in size, weighs over 60 tonnes (empty) and is the largest the vessel fabricators have manufactured to date.
