Celebrating Women in Insulation
This International Women’s Day, we’re putting a spotlight on Nicole Simons, a rising star in industrial insulation. Nicole began her thermal insulation apprenticeship with Powertherm in August 2024 and has already made remarkable impact.
While completing her apprenticeship, she also earned her Level 1 Rope Access qualification, combining technical expertise with a commitment to safe working practices on site.

Nicole was drawn to the role after seeking a career change: “My old job was dragging me down, so I decided it was time for a change. I came across the thermal insulation apprenticeship on Indeed, applied, and it’s taken off from there.”
Working in a traditionally male-dominated industry, Nicole says she’s found the experience positive and rewarding: “It’s been better and more fulfilling than I expected. Most of my roles have been in similar environments, so I felt comfortable straight away.”
Since starting her apprenticeship, Nicole has already achieved:
- Powertherm Apprentice of the Year
- Runner-up, TICA Apprentice of the Year
- Level 1 Rope Access qualification

Her journey embodies this year’s International Women’s Day theme, “Give to Gain.” By investing her time, effort, and skills into learning and supporting her team, Nicole has gained recognition, career growth, and the opportunity to inspire others considering a career in insulation.
When asked for advice for women thinking about a career in construction or insulation, Nicole says: “Just go for it. The role offers good earning potential, career growth, and opportunities to travel.”
Looking ahead, Nicole aims to complete her apprenticeship, achieve her Gold Card, progress further in rope access, and continue advancing her career in insulation.
