What do you receive following a TIPCHECK audit?
A Technical Insulation Performance Check, or TIPCHECK, audit provides more than just a snapshot of industrial insulation performance, it delivers a structured, standards based report that quantifies exactly where energy is being lost and what can be saved.
From high-level savings summaries to detailed individual valve and component analysis, the report translates thermal performance into clear energy, carbon, and financial impact. This enables informed decision-making, prioritised improvements, and a robust business case for insulation upgrades.
Executive Summary
The Executive Summary provides a clear, high-level overview of the findings from the TIPCHECK audit. It highlights total identified energy losses, achievable energy savings, associated cost savings, and potential CO₂e reduction. An insulation energy efficiency class is also assigned (specified by you) in line with recognised standards, allowing decision makers to quickly understand the scale of saving opportunity.
Project Description
This section outlines when and where the TIPCHECK audit was carried out, the scope of the survey, and the key project contacts. It defines the purpose of the assessment and confirms which systems and components were inspected, ensuring full transparency and traceability of the audit.
Inspection Methodology
The inspection methodology explains how energy losses were identified and assessed during the site survey. It details how process conditions, surface temperatures, geometry, and operating hours were captured on site to ensure results are based on real operating data, not assumptions.
TIPCHECK Tool
The TIPCHECK Tool is used to calculate energy losses and savings potential at individual component level, such as valves, pipework, and fittings. Calculations are carried out in accordance with recognised British and European standards, comparing current heat losses against defined insulation energy efficiency classes (BS EN 17956). This allows potential energy, carbon, and cost savings to be accurately quantified for each identified item.
Equipment
Certified TIPCHECK Experts use specialist inspection equipment, including infrared thermographic cameras, to measure surface temperatures and visually identify insulation deficiencies. This provides clear, visual evidence to support the calculated results.
Component Summary Table & Component Report
These sections present a summary table showing energy losses and potential savings for each inspected component, alongside total project savings. Each item such as an individual uninsulated valve is then analysed in detail, with supporting pictures and data, including:
- Max density of heat flow rate
- Indicative space requirements
- Project inputs like energy and CO2e emissions prices
- Component inputs: diameter, length, operating, surface and ambient temperatures, operational time for example
This enables clients to clearly see where energy is being lost and to prioritise insulation improvements based on the greatest return.
